Acudió al colegio St. Francis Preparatory High School y después estudió actuación en el Atlantic Theater Company Acting School bajo la tutela de actores como William H. Macy, Felicity Huffman, Giancarlo Esposito y Camryn Manheim. Ha aparecido en muchas películas desde sus inicios, así como en programas de televisión.
Se casó con la actriz Jennie Garth en el 2001 y con ella tiene tres hijos Fiona Eve, Luca Bella y Lola Ray.
